Dealing with Lost Baggage

It will be a nightmare to be informed that your baggage did not arrive with you to your destination.  Although incidents like this rarely happen, they still happen and you might be the one to experience it.  Most of these baggage  will be delivered to the owner by courier and some will also arrive after few hours.  Here are some of the things which you can consider in order to deal better with a lost or delayed baggage.

During the Packing .  As much as possible, do not pack expensive and irreplaceable items.  If you are travelling with important papers/documents, jewelry and cash, put them on your hand carry.  You may want to also consider using a belt bag.

After the packing .  Make sure that the locks and zippers of your baggage are working properly.  Put your name, address and additional identification on your bag.  You may want to attach a colored ribbon to its handle so that you can easily identify it.

If it does not arrive .  The first thing to do is to look for the person in charge of the baggage.  Do not leave the airport; unless, you are done with filling out forms regarding your lost baggage.  Ask for a phone number that you can call in case you need to make a follow up.  You can also request the airlines to provide you with your needs like toothbrush and toothpaste.

Liability of the airlines .  In the event that your baggage is either delayed, damaged or lost because of their carelessness, the airline will be liable for compensation.  The liability still depends on the airline companies as most of them do not claim liability for spoilage of perishable goods.  They also do not claim liability for fragile items if ever they are lost or damage.  Some of the examples are jewelry, silverware, gadgets, important documents, camera and other precious items.
